BISMARCK, ND – For the second year in a row North Dakota was named the best state to start a business by Forbes Advisor. Forbes noted North Dakota's welcoming business environment, low formation fees, business survival rate, and low cost of living as reasons why North Dakota was selected.
Secretary of State Michael Howe highlights how the Office of the Secretary of State has been working to improve service to businesses since he took office January 1, 2023. “North Dakota has always been a great place to live and a great place to start a business. In 2023, we implemented new processes to cut the filing time for a business to register in North Dakota by 43%, going from 6.65 days to 3.75 days, which is a great turnaround rate. That productivity directly impacts the businesses we serve and the people of North Dakota.”
To make their determination Forbes Advisor looked at things like a business’s ability to succeed, costs, workforce, and financial accessibility. Forbes wrote, “North Dakota not only offers financial incentives but also provides a solid foundation for workforce development, ensuring businesses have access to a skilled and able workforce.” The Forbes article can be found at: Ranked: The Best States to Start a Business in 2024.
