Uniform Commercial Code (UCC)
A lien against goods used or bought for commercial purposes.

A lien related to transmitting electric or electronic communications; operating a railroad, subway, street railway or trolley bus; transmitting goods by pipeline or sewer; and transmitting or producing electricity, steam, gas, or water.

Farm Products Central Notice (CNS)
A lien against farm products. A “farm product” is an agricultural commodity such as wheat, corn, soybeans, or a species of livestock such as cattle, hogs, sheep, horses, or poultry used or produced in farming operations, or a product of such crop or livestock in its unmanufactured state (such as ginned cotton, wool-clip, maple syrup, milk, and eggs), that is in the possession of a person engaged in farming operations. The CNS Initial Financing Statement is different from, and in addition to the standard UCC financing statement, which must also be filed to perfect the secured party’s security interest against other creditors.
The Central Notification System is a method for buyers of farm products to receive information about outstanding liens against farm products that they buy. Lien holders submit information to the Secretary of State through the NDCIS. Farm product buyers have the option to purchase monthly lists of farm products that have liens against them.

Miscellaneous Statutory Lien (MSL)
Any blacksmith, machinist, farm equipment dealer, construction equipment dealer, welder, garage keeper, mechanic, or aviation operator, having an established place of business in this state who makes, alters, or repairs any automobile, truck, engine, combine, tractor, farm equipment, construction equipment, well machine, aircraft, or watercraft at the request of the owner or legal possessor of the property has a lien on that property, and on any accessories and parts placed upon the property, for reasonable charges for work done, materials furnished, storage fees, and transportation costs, until the charges are paid.

A lien that can be filed by an insurance agent, insurance broker, or surplus lines insurance broker licensed to do business in this state on the covered property for the amount of any unpaid property or casualty insurance premium.

A lien established on the property of a parent that owes past-due support, the child support agency may establish a lien on property of the parent as provided in NDCC ch. 35-34. Except for liens under section 35-34-05, the amount of a lien under this chapter includes any past-due support that is owed when the lien is perfected and any past-due support that accrues after the lien is perfected. They type of property dictates where the lien is filed.

Agricultural Statutory Lien Notice (ASL)
A type of lien that can be filed by any person who processes crop or agricultural products is entitled to a lien upon the crop or product processed for the reasonable value of the services performed. A "processor" includes persons threshing, combining, drying, or harvesting any crop or agricultural product.

A lien filed by a person who furnishes supplies used in the production of crops, agricultural products, or livestock is entitled to a lien upon the crops, products produced by the use of the supplies, and livestock and their products including milk. "Supplies" includes seed, petroleum products, fertilizer, farm chemicals, insecticide, feed, hay, pasturage, veterinary services, or the furnishing of services in delivering or applying the supplies.

A type of lien that applies when an owner of livestock entrusts the care of animals to another for the purpose of feeding, herding, pasturing, or ranching. The lien is upon the animals for the amount that may be due to the caretaker for feeding, herding, pasturing, or ranching, and the lienholder is authorized to retain possession of the animal until the amount due is paid.

A type of lien that is filed by a landlord for the crops grown on the rented agricultural land that they own for payment of rent.

State or Federal Lien
A state tax lien is a legal document claiming money is owed to the Office of the State Tax Commissioner. This is applied to real and personal property, which means the property may not be sold until the tax is paid. A tax lien is a public record.

A lien filed by the IRS against a taxpayer when unpaid federal taxes are owed. The lien can be filed on real estate, personal property, or other financial assets until the debt is paid.

Federal judgments are filed by a state's attorney's office as the result of a court ruling. A judgment lien is different than other liens because the debtor has a lien against their property without consent. These liens are not searchable in NDCIS.
