How Do I Vote?

No matter how you choose to vote, North Dakota’s Central Voter File Ensures One Vote = One Person. Even if you mailed an absentee ballot and show up at the polls to cast a vote, your voter record will show if you have "officially" cast your vote. Whichever ballot is received first will result in your voter record being updated and not allow you to vote again in that election.

North Dakotans have three options for casting their vote.

  • Early Voting
  • Election Day at the Polls
  • Absentee Voting

Early Voting

Early Voting

Some communities offer early voting at certain dates and times prior to Election Day.

  • Cast your vote in person when convenient for you.
  • Once you check-in at an early voting site, your voter record is updated.

When voting in person, the poll worker at the polling location will review your ID and will ask three questions. These questions are a verbal acknowledgement that you are indeed eligible to vote in North Dakota.

  1. Are you 18 years of age?
  2. Are you a U.S. citizen?
  3. Have you lived in North Dakota for the last 30 days?

Check if your county offers early voting at Early Voting Available Counties.
