BISMARCK, ND—The North Dakota Office of the Secretary of State wants to remind people that the June 11 Primary Election is only three weeks away. As election day gets closer, voters are encouraged to make a plan to cast their ballot.

“Primary elections determine which partisan, judicial, and county candidates move forward to the general election in November. City and school contests are final in the primary which means this election determines who will lead and serve at the local level,” said Secretary of State Michael Howe. “Additionally, there is one statewide measure on the June 11 Primary ballot and there could be other city or county measures that are decided in this election. As we approach our June Primary Election, North Dakotans have several options to securely and confidently cast their ballots.”

People can go to vote.nd.gov/myvotinginfo to request an application for an absentee ballot and find voting information specific to their address, including polling locations and times and whether their county offers early voting. They can also view a sample of their Primary Election ballot.

As of May 21 at 11:00 a.m., 7,909 absentee ballots have been returned out of 31,099 that were requested, or 25.43%. People planning to vote absentee should request an application for a ballot as soon as possible to allow enough time to receive and return their ballot. Absentee ballots need to be postmarked by June 10 or hand-delivered to the county auditor by 5:00 p.m. on June 10.

North Dakota has a voter ID law that requires people to have a valid form of identification to vote. This can be a North Dakota driver’s license, North Dakota non-driver ID, Tribal ID or letter, or long term care certificate. To streamline the voting process, people are encouraged to make sure their ID information is updated before election day if they have moved or renewed if they have an expired ID. Address changes to North Dakota driver’s licenses and non-driver IDs can be made online through the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) website or by calling 701-328-4353.
